Trinton Smith

Biography
With over 30 + years industry experience, Trinton has expertise across all facets of automation and robotics.
Commencing his career as an electrical apprentice at Robot Technologies-Systems Australia (RTA) in 1987, Trinton progressed upward through the company, to Project Manager and Senior Manager, before eventually holding the position of General Manager for more than 10 years.
As RTA’s General Manager, Trinton was heavily involved in the operational and organisational aspects of the business, responsible for company budgets and resources. In the process, Trinton took RTA’s turnover and profitability to new levels.

Experience and Expertise
Having managed automation and robotic projects valued in excess of $8 million, Trinton’s expertise encompasses the sale, design, construction, installation, commissioning and support services for robot cells and automated processes. He has worked with a range of robotic brands, from Staubli and Kawasaki, through to ABB and KUKA.
Trinton also has extensive knowledge and experience in lean process improvement and flow, mechanical and electrical design, service and maintenance of robots and associated equipment, project process mapping, PLC and HMI programming, simulation studies, and time and motion studies. He has also been heavily involved in the sale of robots and automated systems throughout his career, enjoying both the challenge of sales and the interaction with customers.
Armed with an excellent understanding of industry requirements with respect to robots and automation, Trinton has worked across a range of industries. Just some of these industries include welding, automotive, pharmaceutical, and food and beverage, painting, sandblasting, handling, palletising, assembly, and plasma cutting.
Adept at working with some of the largest manufacturers and prime contractors in Australia, Trinton was responsible for the conceptual design and implementation of the robot-on-robot system installed on behalf of Thales (complete with Servo robot laser vision tracking), as well as pile cutting robots for Monadelphous and over 70 robots for Mitsubishi Motors Australia in 2003-2004. He was also responsible for selling Kawasaki robots into the Australian and New Zealand markets.
